Seth Meicht is a Boston-based jazz saxophonist, composer, and educator known for his robust tenor sound, adventurous improvisational voice, and dynamic presence within the contemporary creative jazz scene. A versatile performer whose work bridges straight-ahead jazz, free improvisation, and experimental composition, Meicht has performed extensively throughout the United States at leading venues and festivals including the Blue Note in New York, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Vision Festival, the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, and The Stone.
Originally active in the Philadelphia and New York jazz communities before settling in Boston, Meicht studied and performed closely with legendary saxophonist Odean Pope, appearing as part of Pope’s internationally recognized Saxophone Choir alongside artists including Joe Lovano, James Carter, and Michael Brecker. His collaborations over the years have included performances with many influential musicians in avant-garde and contemporary jazz, among them Ravi Coltrane, Darius Jones, Bobby Zankel, Steve Swell, and Mike Pride.
As a bandleader and recording artist, Meicht has released several acclaimed recordings including Live in Philadelphia, Illumine, and Loud Like Hemlocks, projects noted for their expansive ensemble writing and fearless improvisational energy. Critics have praised his playing for balancing expressive warmth with exploratory risk-taking; The New York Times described him as “a tenor saxophonist with a robust tone and a venturesome streak, though he isn’t averse to swinging.”
In addition to his performing career, Meicht is a dedicated music educator. He serves as a music teacher at the Riverbend School, where he teaches K–8 music while continuing an active professional performing and recording career.
